BOYERTOWN AREA YMCA HISTORY


1934  YMCA program services began in Boyertown
1980   First Capital Campaign raised $700,000 to construct facility
1982   Newly constructed facility was dedicated in Sept. to Daniel B. Boyer
1983   Grant acquired to build 7,000 sq ft gymnasium
1984   YMCA School’s Out program began construction of two racquetball
                  courts completed
1986   Senior Neighborhood Center was added to Multi-Service
1988   Boyertown Area YMCA became independent of Reading & Berks Co. YMCA
            Growing Dreams Child Care Center was opened
1990  2nd Capital Campaign raised $1,175,000. to expand Boyertown Area YMCA
1992  Blanch Reigner Boyer Natatorium was dedicated
            Multi-purpose room, locker rooms, & expansion of Fitness Center was completed
1995  Outdoor sand volleyball courts added
            Building A Better Tomorrow support campaign began on annual basis
            Modular units installed to accommodate growing School’s Out program
1996  YMCA & BASH collaborate to form high school swim team
1997  Cabot Performance Materials funds conversion of lobby into Family Center
1999  Growing Dreams expands an additional 4000 sq ft
            Boyertown Area YMCA purchases 22 acres of land in New Hanover
2000   YMCA assumes responsibility for Cosmic Corner Coffee House
            School’s Out expands to sites at New Hanover Evangelical Church & Washington 
                  Elementary School
2001  Feasibility study conducted to determine future direction of Boyertown Area YMCA 
           School's Out expands to site at Boyertown Elementary School
           Board votes to move ahead with capital campaign for building a new facility in New
                Hanover and renovations at Daniel B. Boyer Center
2002  20th Anniversary of the Boyertown Area YMCA facility
           Capital Campaign in progress
2003  Renovations at Daniel B. Boyer Center completed
            Purchased Gilbertsville Center building
            Expansion of the Gilbertsville Center completed
            Capital Campaign successfully raised $2,142,000
2004   Hendricks Family Center opens
2005   Renovations to Daniel B. Boyer Center front entrance
            Conversion of space to a family locker room at the Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Upgraded lobby restrooms at the Daniel B. Boyer Center to meet
                 current ADA standards
2006   Renovated former Senior Center to Childcare Center
            Renovated former Multi-Service Offices for YMCA staff
            Renovated Student Lounge to a Youth Wellness Center
            Built pavilion at Hendricks Family Center
2007   Replaced and renovated Ladies whirlpool at Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Replaced Natatorium HVAC system at Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Installed a UV Light system in pool at Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Renovated Tyke Tyme playground at Daniel B. Boyer Center
2008   Installed toddler playground at Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Purchased 25 spinning bicycles for group exercise at Daniel B. Boyer Center
            Updated whirlpool drains to meet Virginia Graeme Baker Safety Act
2009   May – Dedication Ceremony to rename Hendricks Family Center the 
            William S. Hollenbach Center
            Entered into 3-year Lease with Borough of Boyertown to lease the
            Boyertown Community Pool
            Renovations done to the Community Pool to be in compliance with the Virginia 
            Graeme Baker Safety Act
            Leased 11 new pieces of equipment for the Fitness Center at the Daniel B. 
            Boyer Center
            Updated indoor pool drains to meet Virginia Graeme Baker Safety Act
            Elevator installation at William S. Hollenbach Center
